 7-a-side Football Success

posted on November 12, 2008 15:12 as Events

A group of eight boys did the school proud recently at the North Worcestershire Area ESFA 7-a-side football tournament. The boys entered the tournament with high hopes and performed excellently, eventually winning the competition.

After a goal-less draw in the opening game against Westacre, the team turned on the style in their second game with a 5-3 victory, inspired by goals from Callum Halpin, Matthew Edge and Cohen Harford. They followed this up with a 2-0 win against well-fancied tournament hosts Aston Fields Middle School, which ensured that Holywell topped their group and progressed to the final.

We were once again paired with Aston Fields in the final and the team saved their best performance for this match, defeating a very strong Aston Fields side 3-1. Their attitude and sportsmanship throughout was excellent and they thoroughly deserved to be crowned champions. The team are pictured with their medals and captain Cohen Harford has the trophy in his hands.

Holywell will now compete in the next stage of the competition later this year, let's hope the success continues. Many thanks to Aston Fields for hosting this event and providing referees, and to Kidderminster Harriers for organising the event and providing equipment.

 Dance Festival October 2008

posted on November 02, 2008 14:49 as Events

In October, Holywell hosted a vibrant Dance Festival, joined by children from Lickey Hills and Beaconside Primary Schools.

Children from Holywell's own Dance Club performed 'Thriller' .

Children from years 3 and 4 had the opportunity to make up their own dances, helped by Dance Club members from years 5 and 6.

In the second part of the Festival we were joined by year 7 pupils from Waseley Hills High School, who were in Holywell's Belly Dancing troupe last year.

All the children learned some new belly dancing moves and had the chance to dress up in belly dancing scarves.

Everyone had fun and enjoyed a really different morning.

Beat the Baggie Bird Goalie!

On May 1st 2008, the whole of Holywell Primary School enthusiastically supported our sponsored Beat the Goalie event. Children from Nursery to Year 6 enjoyed a penalty shoot-out against Baggie Bird from West Bromwich Albion Football Club.

Loud cheers erupted from the school hall as the children tried to slip the ball into the net. We are hoping to raise lots of money from this sponsored event, which will be split between the West Bromwich Albion Community Programme and the school.

We celebrated World Book Day in style! !

Children and staff dressed as their favourite character from a book, and Holywell became storyland for the day. There were the good, the bad and the ugly, and everyone enjoyed the day.

at Holywell

On Friday 2nd November, Elvis flew in from Graceland to join the Holywell choir live on stage. He performed some of his greatest hits for fans young and not quite as young.

He was in Rubery for just one day to promote the Holywell Choir's forthcoming "Primrose Proms" performance at the Spadesbourne Suite in Bromsgrove. The choir will be singing a medley of Elvis songs and some of their favourite school songs, in aid of the Primrose Hospice. Sorry folks, this is already a sell-out gig!

Elvis appeared at Holywell by special arrangement with Rev. Nick Jones.
